What I never see explained, is what exactly PCI cards should I get to get the full sized SAS drive to work with my desktop PC? Because looking at server component stores, I see there digit prices for SAS controllers, and the author mentions they are cheap.
My advice: On eBay (or any other platform that makes it easy to buy used hardware components), go look for "sas2008 4e", and check out the offers. You should be able to get a decent HBA driven by mpt2sas/mpt3sas for around 40 to 60US$.
